Leaders have long known that innovation requires unleashing the power of teams. Teams are designed to bring people together to share ideas and problem solve by drawing on each member’s knowledge, background, and perspectives. The session will begin by examining research that shows that, under the right conditions, diverse teams outperform homogenous teams. Yet, diversity is not enough. To realize the value of diversity, teams must also be inclusive, ensuring that all members are able to share their unique ideas and have their contributions heard and valued. We will learn about “team dynamics killers” that limit the power of teams to leverage all of their talent. We will then discuss evidence-based strategies for getting beyond these barriers and creating truly inclusive and successful teams. We will end by reflecting on the challenges and the opportunities for building more diverse and inclusive teams and workplaces as we move into the new hybrid work environments that are emerging in from the pandemic.
